“‘Wouldn’t it be cool if you could fuck yourself with your foot?’ That was the birth of Heeldo,” co-founder Joe Wilson said.

The query came from Wilson’s business partner, Heeldo cofounder Drew Conner.

“I knew he was on to something since there was nothing like it currently in the marketplace,” Wilson said. “We did our research and after rounds of protoytpes and QA testing, we finally found a great manufacturer to create Heeldo. We realized early on that the uses of Heeldo were pretty endless, man or woman, gay or straight, vagina or ass play, Heeldo is one of the most versatile harnesses on the market and truly the first of its kind.”

Heeldo is a strap-on dildo harness for the foot allowing for vaginal, clitoral or anal stimulation. It slides on the foot like a sock and a dildo protrudes out of the back of the harness — where the wearer’s heel is. The user can then sit, squat and bounce on their favorite harness-friendly dildo.

According to the Wilson, Heeldo has embarked on a promotional quest with its latest effort set for Feb. 10 when Heeldo’s owners will be interviewed live for Playboy Radio. The company also is hosting a launch party that night at the Casting Office Bar in Hollywood, Calif.

The company said its collection of handles, waterproof toys and other suction-cup sexcessories allows couples to enjoy each other in slippery situations.

Sportsheets President Tom Stewart responded to questions from an Esquire reader who asked about tips, tricks and advice for having sex in the shower without risk of injury.

Stewart suggested using Sex In the Shower handles that suction to any surface, as well as the shower step and foam knee pads to give the body a well-deserved cushion.

“These suction-cup handles, you can put them anywhere,” Stewart said. “It gives you something to hang on to. And the shower step that we’ve got is a lot more versatile than the corner of your bathtub. We’ve got foam kneepads that will absolutely save your life.”

Sportsheets and its Sex & Mischief fantasy accessory collection are up for multiple 2012 XBIZ Awards, including BDSM Pleasure Products Company of the Year, Marketing Campaign of the Year and Excellence in Product Packaging.

Sex toys have found religion.

The ever-burgeoning novelty industry has broken what’s probably the last barrier of mainstream acceptance and has been embraced by a number of religious-based websites that offer sex novelties for couples who want to spice up their spirituality.

Christian, Jewish and Muslim-based novelty sites are now offering their flocks sex aids along with a dose of scripture.

The Daily Beast reports that entrepreneurs have found a new niche in the reported $15 billion industry and a unique way to market to sex toy consumers who consider themselves pious but are turned off by the explicitness and overtly sexuality of most novelty sites.

One leading Christian sex toy site, Book 22 (named after the Biblical Book of Solomon) was founded by Joy Wilson nearly a decade ago when she realized she needed something more to jazz her and her husband’s sex life after their second child was born. The explicitness of most novelty sites offended her so she decided to take matter into her own hands — so to speak.

Now, Book 22 is facing competition from rival vendors including Hooking Up Holy, (with a tagline of “Spouses Who Play Together Stay Together”), Kosher Sex Toys, El Asira, Intimacy of Eden, and Covenant Spice.

Aimed primarily at married, heterosexual couples, the sites are even being supported by a number of community leaders.

Kosher Sex Toy consultant Rabbi David Ribner told The Beast, “Religious people do it like everybody else. Why shouldn’t they have access to toys that make their lives more satisfying?”

The site’s owner Gavriel, a 25-year-old furniture salesman said, “There is nothing wrong with having all the sex you want.”

In fact, some of the new religious sex retailers believe that their holy scriptures not only condone, but require a healthy sex life. El Asira founder Abdelaziz Aouragh noted that Islamic belief stresses that men and women must “reach their peak” during intercourse and only after that is the “deed complete.”

Most of the new sites are found though Google searches and ship a few hundred orders a month, but business is growing.

Some use quotes from scripture or other religious messages to soften the sex, but products include vibrators, lingerie, whips, lotions, clitoris stimulators and more. But some draw the line based on religious doctrine and customer concerns.

For example, some Christians will balk at anal items or condoms (but special orders are not uncommon), the El Asira Muslim site will sell only Sharia-compliant items, and Kosher Sex Toys won’t stock male masturbatory aids (because “God frowns on wasted potential according to the Torah”).

Packaging for the most part is toned down and shipped in plain boxes.

But the holy use most of the same Chinese manufacturers and local distributors as the typical novelty industry.

Although selling sex toys with a religious hook may be a clever way of further exploiting a growing industry, the purveyors of these new sites claim their mission is to educate and build mutual respect between couples — something the secular industry segment has been touting all along.

“Rock Box is more than a vibrator or massager, it is an orgasm machine,” Lovehoney co-founder Richard Longhurst said. “We set out to design a product that is easy to use and handle and also delivers incredibly powerful vibrations. We succeeded and expect Rock Box to be a huge seller. Anyone who has ever tried the Hitachi Magic wand and wants to take their pleasure to the next level will love rocking out with the Rock Box.”

Lovehoney said that it designed the Rock Box to deliver the most powerful vibrations ever experienced, exactly where the user wants to feel them most. Because of the strength delivered by the 5,000-RPM motor, the manufacturer said that it encourages users to try it while fully clothed until they get used to the machine’s power.

The Rock Box is supplied with two adaptors, the “Hot Chick” for women and “Master Blaster” for men. The Hot Chick adapter is perfectly designed to complement the natural curves of the female body so it can transmit vibrations deep inside. The Master Blaster adapter stimulates him by targeting the pleasure points on the underside of the penis.

“In an industry filled with more sex toys than I could ever count on all my fingers and toes, it’s not often that I have had the pleasure of experiencing at toy that truly lives up to its name,” said Michelle Marcus, director of sales and promotions for Lovehoney USA. “The Rock Box will do just that and then some! Whether you’re looking for a solo experience or one with your partner, the super intense vibrations you will experience all throughout your body are literally toe curling, resulting in an orgasm that words cannot even begin to describe. Be sure to break our your rain gear with the Rock Box, because everyone involved will be showered with the awesomeness this toy brings to the bedroom.”

DevineToys founder Nina Helms has launched Sexual Heath Enthusiasts, a sexual health and wellness boutique brand offering the AfterCare skin care system for sexual health.

The AfterCare skin science system is designed to improve sexual health with four body products formulated to work together to benefit the skin after sex by supporting and accelerating the body’s natural recuperation process.

“Sex is delightfully noisy, messy, smelly and fun and it can take a toll on a body, too,” Sexual Health Enthusiasts President Nina Helms said. “AfterCare addresses our recovery needs resulting from the rarely discussed after-effects of sex. The AfterCare system is the smart way to cleanse, restore, balance and refresh our intimate selves so we can get back to having more sex sooner.”

Helms, who is seasoned in the sexual wellness space through her eight years owning adult novelty manufacturer DevineToys, first introduced the AfterGlow Cleansing Tissues. The now fully developed AfterCare system is an expansion on AfterGlow. The three new products share the same gender neutral sensibility in scent, purpose and design.

AfterGlow Cleansing Tissues are intended for post-play clean-up and retail for $9.

The AfterCare line also includes AfterIt Natural Cleansing Foam, which cleans and moisturizes to accelerate recovery and help restore disrupted pH balance. It retails for $22.

Priced at $16, AfterTrace Natural Scent Neutralizer is designed for skin rejuvenation and suppresses odor.

AfterShave natural After Grooming Therapy, which retails for $20, is designed to calm irritated post-hair removal areas and deeply moisturizes and features an exfoliant to diminish ingrown hairs and bumps.

According to the company, the AfterCare skin science system works with the body’s natural chemistry for correct holistic support of sexual wellbeing. The line is formulated with natural, organic and clinically tested ingredients.

A recent survey by Adam & Eve finds 52 percent of adults admit they’ve had sex in public.

Respondents, who were allowed to choose multiple answers, admit their top locations are parked cars (80 percent), the woods (55 percent), a park (44 percent), beach (42 percent), and workplace office (25 percent). Public bathrooms (22 percent), movie theater (16 percent), airplane (7 percent), church (5 percent) and taxi (2 percent) followed.

In addition, more than 600 Adam & Eve Facebook followers said they’d enjoyed sex in public.

Of those, 30 percent did not specify where, 25 percent said parked cars, 22 percent said in the woods, 8 percent chose on the beach, 6 percent chose workplace office, 5 percent said public bathroom, 3 percent said movie theater, 2 percent chose park, and less than 1 percent each said airplane, church or taxi.

Dr. Kat Van Kirk, Adam & Eve’s resident sex expert, finds these numbers encouraging.

“Sex in public can add a sense of adventure to routine lovemaking habits,” Dr. Van Kirk said. “I’m happy to see so many couples keeping sex exciting, although I do encourage adults to be discreet and keep their erotic encounters far from prying eyes.”

Chad Davis, Adam & Eve’s director of marketing, agrees.

“While I was surprised at the high number of adults who enjoy sex in public, I am pleased that American adults are still finding the thrill in sex by trying new things,” he said.

The web-based survey was conducted by an independent third-party survey company, quering more than 1,000 American adults age 18 and up.

People’s managing editor made a last-minute decision not to run the advertisement due to heightened sensitivity resulting from the Penn State scandal, which is covered in the Sexiest Man Alive issue. An apology was made to Trigg for any inconvenience this may have caused.

“We respect and support People Magazine’s decision to pull the Wet Platinum advertisement from the Sexiest Man Alive issue,” said Michael Trigg, CEO of Trigg Laboratories.

“While the original creative was intended to denote a consenting adult man and woman together in a bathtub, we understand how the image and tagline can be misconstrued, especially in light of the troubling allegations of child abuse at Penn State. Our creative team will work closely with People to create a revised version that shows the benefits of Wet Platinum. We look forward to publishing our new advertisement and working with People magazine on the upcoming Best of 2011 issue.”

The original creative had run previously in OK! Magazine, In Touch Weekly and earlier issues of People and was set to run in People’s Sexiest Man Alive issue featuring actor Bradley Cooper.

Time Inc., the publisher of People magazine, incurred charges to pull the advertisement.

“Trigg Laboratories looks forward to the new Wet Platinum advertisement that will run in the Dec. 26 issue of People magazine pending approval from Time Inc.,” Trigg said.

“We remain dedicated to creating fun-loving, intimacy enhancing products for use only by consenting adults.”

The Strapless Thong collection features a total of 12 styles consisting of a variety of colors in standard, plus size, vibrating and non-vibrating options. All have been designed with comfort in mind, the company said.

“Our new Strapless Thongs are cleverly designed to effortlessly and comfortably cling to the body and feel like you are wearing next to nothing,” said Liz Plascencia, account executive of Pipedream Products. “They are just as useful for tanning salons, vacation resorts and beaches as they are under tight clothing. Uncomfortable waistbands, panty lines and unattractive tan lines can be a thing of the past!”

The Fetish Fantasy Lingerie Strapless Thongs are available in Black, Leopard, Polka Dot, Pink and “Bitch” varieties in standard and plus size. Pipedream has also added standard and plus size Vibrating Strapless Thongs, which are available in Black or Leopard print.

“The Vibrating Strapless Thongs feature a discreet pocket inside the front of the panty where the included cordless micro bullet can be hidden for added fun,” says Nick Orlandino, CEO of Pipedream. “The powerful, waterproof bullet is one of the most popular bullets on the market.”
