On Saturday, Oct 8, adult toys retailer SexToy.com led the first successful launch of a sex toy into space and back.

SexToy.com’s branded vibrating bullet moved at speed of 1,800 feet per minute and reached an estimated maximum altitude of 120,000 feet. Powered by Energizer Lithium Ultimate AA batteries, the vibrating bullet was fully operational and vibrating for the entire nine-hour space voyage.

Though some media outlets have thought the project to be a pure publicity stunt, CEO Sextoy Dave commented, “This is really just a stepping stone to do more interesting experiments with sex toys. The success of this launch has our team planning the next space endeavor — we may be launching a sex doll into space to serve as an extraterrestrial representative baring the slogan, ‘We Cum in Peace.’”

The vibrating bullet had a dramatic launch and rocky descent back into earth’s atmosphere. The ascent took more than one hour and halfway through the ascent the bullet withstood the coldest temperatures of its journey at -75F.

The turbulent descent took approximately 30 minutes. The partially solar-powered, partially helium-filled balloon equipped with an HD video and still camera was tangled up in balloon debris and popped at around 19:24 into the descent. It hit the ground at upwards of 60 miles per hour rather than the gentle 5-10 mph expected. However, the payload was engineered to be impact-resistant, so nothing was damaged. The balloon and sex toy landed safely in an open field away from houses and people, and were retrieved by the Sextoy.com team. Miraculously, the vibrator was still vibrating, company officials said.

Pictures and video of the sex toy’s space voyage are posted on SexToy.com/blog. The space-traveled vibrating bullet will be auctioned off on ebay.com with proceeds benefiting Breast Cancer Awareness.

In less than two weeks, soliciting oral and anal sex won’t be considered a felony in the state of Louisiana.

Most might be blown away hearing that the state still limits sex acts, but they have been on the books since the early 1800s, even a number of years before it achieved statehood.

Legislation initiated by state Sen. Jean Paul J. Morrell decriminalized the crimes from felony to misdemeanor status. The solicitation of “unnatural carnal copulation” meant longer jail terms and the branding of “sex offender” on state-issued driver’s licenses.

But there still is a price to pay if cited for some back-door action.

Starting Aug. 1, offenders can face up to six months in jail and a maximum of $500 for anything other than vaginal intercourse. Two convictions though still get the offender labeled with being a sex offender.

The Center for Sex and Culture in San Francisco is gearing up for its annual fundraising Masturbate-A-Thon set for this weekend.

Because of the center’s recent move to a new venue, located at 1349 Mission St., event organizers say this year’s event will be a simple affair. As of now, there will be no live webcasting online, tracking of masturbation timing records and events will be shorter than usual.

But participants will still be able to enjoy themselves. On Saturday, from 7-10 p.m. women and couples are invited to attend. A mens-only and couples session is scheduled for Sunday, May 22 from 2-5 p.m.

Although this year’s Masturbate-A-Thon will be low-key, CSC co-founder/executive director Carol Queen said, “Our intention is to be back up to full speed by next year’s event.”

Organizers said the original intent of the Masturbate-A-Thon is to encourage people to talk about masturbation in a positive, non-shamed-based way.

“The goal is twofold,” said Dr. Robert Lawrence, co-founder of the Center for Sex and Culture. “One is to raise consciousness about the pleasure and safer sex aspects and to reduce the shame about a natural human behavior and the other is to raise money for deserving underfunded nonprofits.”

There are three ways to participate in this weekend’s event. Participants can collect pledges from others (organizers suggest a minimum of $10 per hour), collect pledges and do the Masturbate-A-Thon at home, or participants can pledge themselves and take part in the event for a minimum bid of $20.

Lawrence said the event has benefited various organizations and deserving charities around the world, including London, Copenhagen, Toronto, Portland, Boston, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston and Madison.

According to the company, sex, toy and novelty shop Good Vibrations started the Masturbate-A-Thon in 1998 as part of a study group after introducing Masturbation Month in 1995 to protest then-President Bill Clinton’s firing of Surgeon General Dr. Joycelyn Elders, a supporter of self-stimulation.

Up to 200 fans created a shopping frenzy at the fourth annual Castle Megastore Halloween Fashion Show, where more than 80 of the most popular styles for men and women paraded down a runway.

Castle Megastore President and CEO Mark Franks said that for the first time ever, the Halloween fashion show also streamed live online for long-distance fans.

Hosted by radio DJ Kassie, raffles and prizes from event sponsors Dreamgirl, Pipedream Products, CalExotics, Digital Playground, Liberator Forplay and Coquette, among others, kept the attendees excited during the show’s intermissions.

“I love hosting this event,” Kassie said. “I’m a fan of Castle Megastore and with more than 80 sexy costumes walking down the runway, there was never a dull moment. I was the host of sexiness!”

Marissa, an attendee sitting front row at the fashion show said she chose her seat to get a good view of the new styles in hopes that it would inspire her own Halloween look.

“I’ve attended the past fashion shows,” she said, “and this one’s been the best. It just keeps growing.”

The theme of the fashion show, Castle in Wonderland, was inspired by “Alice in Wonderland” and was evident throughout the store with decorations and sexy body-painted mad hatter, Queen of Heart and Alice. With the recent big-budget mainstream blockbuster remake, Castle’s costume buyer Pilar said this year’s most-popular styles are those inspired by the fairy tale’s characters.

“Indian costumes also made a big comeback this year,” she said. “Schoolgirls, gangsters and naughty nurses are always bestsellers. However, Dreamgirl’s reversible costumes are getting a lot of attention this year because it allows for quick changes.”

In a very discrete manner, Fun Factory USA’s packaging of the Secret Styler incited my curiosity with a clear window revealing the items within — supple-looking heart and keyhole-shaped shaving templates in pink and black. The soft silicone shapes have handles that offer a nice grip while you hold them against your body. Having never been one to get artistic with my lady parts, I was excited to set aside some extra time in the shower.

DailyMail.co.uk reported this week the tragic story of 30-year-old Nichola Pagiton, a nanny, who was found dead in bed naked from the waist down with a vibrator alongside her as porn played on her laptop.

Police found her after her employer Sarah Griffiths went to Nichola’s home after she did not show up at work that day. When there was no reply at the door, Sarah called on Nichola’s neighbor Michelle Grant and together they peaked through the window. Through the curtains, the ladies saw Miss Paginton lying on her bed with a cat lying on her chest.

“After they broke in they realized Miss Paginton was dead,” said Sgt Webb. “She had a computer on her lap and when they moved it and lifted the duvet, they found she was naked from the waist down and there was a vibrator in the bed. The laptop was still displaying pornographic material.”

The coroner determined Nichola died from a sudden heart arrhythmia, brought on by her state of arousal…

“I am satisfied Nichola Paginton died of a natural disease process – sudden cardiac arrhythmia,” the coroner said. “It is not always possible to determine an exact cause of death but it is likely that her activity before death contributed towards it.”

BusinessWeek.com reports that a Harvard University study says that men taking drugs for erectile dysfunction showed almost triple the rate of STDs compared with those not taking medication.

The study, looking at men taking Pfizer’s Inc. Viagra and Eli Lilly & Co.’s Cialis, was published in the Annals of Internal Medicine.

However, the results, based on an analysis of the health insurance claims of men aged 40 and older, may have more to do with the nature of the men using the impotence drugs than with the medicines leading them to have riskier sex, the research report said.

According to the article, while younger people tend to have more partners than older people, it’s older folks that have more unprotected sex.

About 19 million new sexually spread infections occur each year in the U.S., almost half of them among people ages 15 to 24 years old, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Still, people aged 40 to 49 accounted for the largest proportion of newly diagnosed HIV/AIDS cases, 27 percent, in 2007, according to the CDC. Those 50 to 59 accounted for 13 percent, while those over the age of 60 accounted for 4 percent.

Weird how older doesn’t necessarily mean wiser….
